Our Next Frontier
San Diego Composites
During the past year, SDC has developed a novel approach for elevated temperature testing... the High Rate Infrared Facility. HiRIF is an industry leading radiant heating system designed to flash heat specimens up to 2000°F at greater than 100°F/sec.
San Diego Composites
Ideally suited for materials characterization testing, HiRIF has the capacity to simulate harsh, real-world aerothermal heating conditions.  HiRIF achieves more realistic results and is especially critical when conducting elevated temperature testing of Hot/Wet conditioned materials to minimize water loss during the heating phase. Traditional methods require extended soak times to reach temperature, during which time moisture is driven out of the coupons, resulting in unrealistic results.
San Diego Composites
SDC has developed a flexible facility capability that can be reconfigured for a large range of ASTM materials tests as well as subcomponent and systems testing, with the objective of achieving a high degree of repeatabity. Temperature calibration is achieved via embedded Thermocouples that are used to verify temperatures in the test section with non-intrusive IR temperature sensors.
